Charges against 18-year-old Highland Park resident Carlos Lamar Scotland include first-degree murder, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting and obstructing a police officer. Notably, Scotland was only seventeen years old when the crime occurred.

An extensive investigation by the Michigan State Police led to Scotland’s arrest on March 12, 2024. Following his arraignment and remand to jail, the legal process will proceed with a probable cause conference on March 26, 2024. Details of the investigation remain under wraps until presented in court.
